Webflow membership site: what you are building
A members area has four moving parts: forms where people sign up and log in, a payment step for paid plans, a rule that decides who sees which page, and a place to manage members. Webflow ended its own User Accounts feature on January 29, 2026, so those parts now come from an outside tool. Outseta documents the steps below in detail, and the same order applies to the other tools in the Webflow membership plugin shortlist.
Step by step, using Outseta's help article as the example
- Step 1: connect the tool to your Stripe account and add at least one plan. The article says that plan can be a free one.
- Step 2: set the sign up and login options, such as the methods allowed and password rules.
- Step 3: copy the head script from the tool and paste it into your Webflow site's custom code. Webflow lists custom code as a plan feature, so confirm your Site plan includes it.
- Step 4: add buttons or links for sign up, login, profile and logout, and set each link to the matching URL from the tool. The tool can show or hide them based on whether someone is logged in.
- Step 5: choose overlay windows or on-page embeds. The article calls overlays the easiest way to start and notes you can place the forms on their own pages instead.
- Step 6: set which pages or folders require a plan in the tool, and publish the site.
- The Outseta Webflow app is an alternative to hand-pasting: install it from the Webflow Apps marketplace, authorize it, enter your account address and copy the head script it shows.
If your site is on Framer
Outseta's Framer guide uses a plugin from the Framer Marketplace. You enter your Outseta address in the plugin's Custom Code tab, and the plugin adds the script. If you pasted the script by hand earlier, remove it first so it does not run twice. The guide says embeds do not work in Framer's preview, so publish and test on the live address. FrameAuth is a Framer-only alternative, with Stripe or Lemon Squeezy for payments.
Test the flow before you announce it
- Sign up on the published site with a test plan, then log out and log back in.
- Open a gated page while logged in, then again while logged out, and confirm you are sent to the page you chose.
- Open the profile form and check that a member can change details and see invoices.
- Ask how failed payments are handled. Stripe's documentation says to watch for payment failure events and tell the customer, and Outseta says it retries and notifies automatically.
Security basics a tool should cover
Check that the tool you pick lets you set a minimum password length. NIST's guidance asks for at least 15 characters when a password is the only factor, and at least 8 when it is paired with a second factor. OWASP calls multi-factor authentication the best defense against password attacks and advises generic error messages on failed logins. Outseta's authentication page lists password strength settings, and its comparison page lists two-factor sign in.
Outseta describes its gating as JavaScript-based, so ask how a private file, not just a page, is protected before you rely on it.
When a simpler route is enough
If one shared password is enough, Webflow's pricing page lists site and page password protection as plan features. If you want to compare tools before you commit, read what Outseta is and Outseta vs Memberstack.
